Practical guide
Clean and count text in one place. Character count follows JavaScript string length. Word count splits on whitespace, making it a quick estimate for space-separated languages rather than a linguistic analysis.
How to use it
- Paste text into the editor.
- Apply case conversion, remove empty lines or deduplicate lines; each action replaces the current editor content.
- Review the counts and copy the final text.
Example
To clean a pasted list of names, remove empty lines first and then remove duplicates. Normalizing case before deduplication can make results more consistent.
What to know
Duplicate lines must match exactly, including spaces. Word count is not meaningful for languages without spaces, and some emoji occupy more than one JavaScript character unit.
Common question
Why were two similar-looking lines kept?
They may differ in whitespace or an invisible character. The current comparison is exact.
