Practical guide

Convert between text and Base64, or read the Base64 bytes of an image file. This is useful for inspecting API examples and preparing short data fragments.

How to use it

  1. Enter text and choose Encode, or paste Base64 and choose Decode.
  2. For image data, select an image file to read its encoded bytes.
  3. Inspect the output and copy it when ready.

Example

Encoding the text “Hello” produces SGVsbG8=. This is a representation of the bytes, not encrypted data.

What to know

Base64 provides no secrecy. Do not publish passwords or keys because they are “encoded.” Text decoding expects UTF-8, so arbitrary binary data may not display as readable text.

Common question

Why does decoding an image Base64 string fail?

Image bytes are binary, not UTF-8 text. The image picker can return the encoded string, but this page does not display decoded binary as an image.
